Some Rolex series have two generations of products at the same time. For example, the adventure home series is divided into “exploration one” and “exploration two.” The former is the basic model of the series. It only has the essential functions of time and seconds. There are also yacht names. “Tour” uses a two-way rotation outer ring. The Ring Command outer ring of “Two” has a synchronous countdown function. They are not new and old iterations but are based on different functional products of similar design languages. But the Greenwich type is an exception. Today’s current models are Greenwich II. The series only see the “second generation” without the “first generation.” In fact, in the 1980s and 1990s, two generations of products coexisted. Today, we will talk about the development of the series.
Greenwood “originator”: Ref.6542
Rolex GMT-MASTER is a cross-timeline replica watch that was born in the 1950s. With the popularization of civil aviation, people traveling across the time zone are becoming more common, spawning their needs. The Greenwood watches were initially designed by replica Rolex watches and Pan -American Airlines to use it to use the crew of long-distance flights. Its innovative significance is that it is the first to add a 12-hour pointer at 12 hours to make a watch with two sets of inlet systems simultaneously, achieving their unity.
Ref.6542 and Historical Advertising
Rolex pioneered the “small window convex lens” in the log type. The Greenwich type also introduced a design to display the information more clearly. Ref.6542, unveiled in 1954, is a series of mountains. It uses a 38mm diameter, and the red and blue-based red and blue bezels are made of electric wood. However, the durability of this material still needs to be improved, and the improved version of the aluminum bezel soon replaces it.
Green worm type I: Ref.6542 and Ref.1675
The most classic works of the series are Ref.1675. This model was launched for the first time in 1959 to discontinued in 1980, spanning more than 20 years. In addition to the extended production time, Ref.1675 also laid the design tone of the next watch. It can be seen that it adds a crown shoulder and prints the “SuperLialive Chronometer Official Certify” in the dial. Ref.1675 increases the diameter to 40 mm, consistent with the current model. It provides oyster straps, heads of state straps (five baht chains), and gold steel choices. These design impacts to this day.
Greenwich II Ref.16750 (monochromatic bezel)
The REF.16750 waterproof level launched in 1981 increased from 50 meters to 100 meters and was equipped with a CAL.3075 movement with a frequency of 28800VPH and supporting the fast calendar. At this point, the appearance of the Greenwood type I is pretty mature, but there is still “imperfection” -the GMT pointer is non -independent operation, and it does not support the entire fast point of the unit of hours.
Greenwich II Ref.16760
For this, the more mature and convenient technologies and the more convenient use of Greenwich II Ref16760 came into being in 1981. The second-generation products continued the appearance of the first generation, mainly in the movement and adjustment method. The CAL.3085 movement of the Ref.16760 is maintained independently with the GMT needle, and the GMT needle can use 1 hour as an incremental unit. With the coordination of the bezel with a two-way rotation, the watch can read up to three-time zone information.
During the same period, the GMT -type I (REF.16700) and the Greenworm type II (Ref.16710)
The emergence of Greenwich II did not immediately replace the Greenli -type I. From 1983 to 1999, the two generations of products were coexisting. Rolex was even in 1988 (5 years after the launch of the Greenwich II) and was “continued” for the Greenworm Ichi. As the last work, the REF.16700 upgraded the mirror into a robust, wear-resistant sapphire. The version produced in the later period also replaced the luminous material from the to Luminova. Its launch returned the status of Ref.16750 before and ended an end to the Greenworm -type I.
Ref.126710blro (new commemorative strap in 2021)
After entering the millennium, Rolex no longer launches a new Greenworm I watch. Now all models are Greenwich II. The reason for this is apparent: from the appearance point of view, the two generations of products are almost the same design, and the appearance gap is tiny. From a functional point of view, the second generation only optimizes the adjustment of the GMT pointer and has not added new features that are different from the first generation. Similar appearance and limited upgrades overlap the positioning of the two generations of products, so the brand only retains the Glink -type II.
